Explore this lovely city and its famed Strait, mentioned many times in the Geek mythology. The city was founded in the classical age by Greek settlers and destroyed several times by terrifying earthquakes.
The last one took place in 1908, followed by a violent seaquake. The new city was rebuilt in a picturesque style with wide avenues and eclectic, low buildings.
Don’t miss a stop at the Cristo Re view point and at the Norman Cathedral: housed in the bell tower, an astronomical clock resides and is said to be the largest of its kind in the world. The clock was made in 1933 by the brothers Ungerer from Strasbourg and when activated at mid-day, golden statues and historical scenes move through a 15 minute cycle.
