Home of Archimedes and Dionysius the Great, Syracuse was, with Athens, the largest and most beautiful city of the Greek world.
Your visit will start from the Neapolis archaeological park, the most characteristic part of the old Greek city wich includes Hieron’s Altar, the Ear of Dionysius, the Cordari cave, the Greek Theatre, the Roman Ampitheatre.
From here the tour will continue to the little Ortygia island, the oldest part of the city, with the remains of Greek constructions, such as the Doric Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Athena, now part of the Baroque cathedral of Syracuse.
From piazza Duomo we will walk to the Fontana Aretusa (Arethusa Fountain), which is a spring bubbling from a grotto, described in antiquity by Pindar and Virgil.
