Lawrence stayed here from 1920 to 1922, and in Taormina he composed some of his poems, novels, short stories and essays.

Founded in 358 BC by Greeks coming from the destroyed Naxos, which is just a couple of kilometers down at the coast, Taormina seemed to be a perfect location to avoid to be besieged again and since then it enjoyed also a great prosperity thanks to its strategic position.
